Survival of The Fittest

We live in a world where Charles Darwin’s “Survival of the fittest” seems to apply everywhere!! While we grow we learn to survive being dependent on our elders to pick us up, feed us, open doors for us even change our nappies!! We survive the struggle to speak the first word and then to learn how to write it!! (and once we do we never stop!!) We also survive eating anything that may have come our way!! We survive peer pressure, a plethora of books, exams and then results!! We struggle to survive every step of our way!! But its human nature; isn’t it?? We always try to win every race and every fight!! we are born fighters, best at surviving and evolving ..

But what did not survive in us is the spirit of humanity. There are a few exceptions but humanity is on the verge of extinction. In spite of being the fittest surviving race on this planet the one which can “THINK” and “FEEL” we apparently end up misusing these two traits the most. We are trained to think only for ourselves and feel only temperature of the day.

We learn from our experiences and from those of the others. But there are some things we did not learn. After centuries of war we did not learn that it isn't the answer to anything; it only destructs and spreads misery. What we have not learnt is how to survive side by side; how not to misuse the power we have; it isn't possible to tame fellow humans, sooner or later they will rebel and when they do it might be your end.  We haven't learnt that using symbols of peace does not spread peace, one has to work towards it achieving every second of it; consciously and intentionally!!We have a habit of blaming it on our nature and survival instincts. What we fail to understand is the age old saying, "Unity in Diversity"!

Why do we kill another human being just because their skin might be a little darker or their features a little different or they might follow another religion or they might speak another dialect? What we don’t realise is, in spite of so much diversity in culture all religions spread the same message, that of love and compassion! Language is just a medium of conversation and the difference in the color of our skins is just a play of genes. What we forget is what lies within!! We do not look inside the human soul! We  forget that they have the same feeling and the same emotions! They feel the same way you feel when a loved one is lost! Then why is it that we ignore all this and still go on trying to prove ourselves to be superiors when in reality it’s the whole race that is superior not one person and definitely not just one sect!

If each of us ask these questions to ourselves and try to empathise we would realise the power we would have if we stand united and how peaceful life would be!!
